The Vallejo Citizens Academy aims to empower Vallejo residents by offering insights into City government and its operations. You&#39;ll be able to explore City Departments and make a meaningful difference in our community. What is The Vallejo Citizens Academy? The Vallejo Citizens Academy is an 11-week* interactive educational course aimed at helping Vallejo residents understand more about City government and, specifically, how the City of Vallejo operates. We hope that with this information, individuals feel more empowered to participate in Vallejo through their day-to-day work, in the political landscape, or by spreading information to their neighbors. The Citizens Academy will give residents a deeper dive into all City Departments and provide information that residents may not have realized is part of the City&rsquo;s operations.City departments that will be included are:<ul><li>City Manager&rsquo;s Office and City Clerk&rsquo;s Office</li><li>City Attorney&rsquo;s Office</li><li>Vallejo Fire Department</li><li>Vallejo Police Department</li><li>Public Works Department</li><li>Water Department</li><li>Planning and Development Services &amp; Economic Development Department</li><li>Housing and Community Development Department</li><li>Human Resources Department, Risk Management and Information Technology Department</li><li>Finance Department</li></ul> ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONThe Vallejo Citizens Academy is an 11-week* interactive educational course beginning on March 6, 2024. Classes will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Vallejo Room, located below the JFK Library. Class size will be limited to 25 participants, and a small fee of $25 will cover the cost of materials and light dinners that will be provided over the 11 weeks.* The class meets twice a month from March - August 2024

Vallejo Citizens Academy

The upgrade reflects the City&rsquo;s commitment to maintaining and optimizing your drinking water system. The majority of Vallejo&rsquo;s 38,000 water meters are beyond their useful life of 20 years and need to be replaced. The new meters will use advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). AMI is the well-established standard for water metering across the water industry.In Vallejo, the AMI project is expected to result in water savings of over three million gallons per year, which will strengthen Vallejo&#39;s long-term water supply. Once implemented, AMI increases the precision of meter reading by providing 15-minute interval data from meters to both customers and the City through a safe and secure signal. In addition to water savings, the technology will allow timely detection of service breaks and leaks, support the City in implementing monthly billing (presently bi-monthly for residential customers), and strengthen overall billing efficiency. AMI also provides a user-friendly customer interface to empower customers to manage their individual water usage better and to communicate with the City on water-related matters more easily.The AMI project is part of the Council-approved Water Capital Improvement Program. AMI is primarily funded by the Water 2021 revenue bond. In addition to bond funds, the Water Department received a $2 million grant awarded by the United States Bureau of Reclamation. To obtain qualified and experienced AMI contractors, the City issued a request for proposals, evaluated applicants, selected the most qualified and experienced, and negotiated a proposed contract. Council is to consider approval of the contract at the Regular Council Meeting on May 9th.City Council meeting agendas are published a week before each Council meeting. However, because the AMI contract is complex and lengthy, it is being shared two weeks in advance to give Council and the community the chance to read it thoroughly. Also shared here is the Executive Summary of the AMI project, along with videos of two staff presentations about AMI on July 12, 2022, and April 18, 2023. On April 18th, the City Council held a workshop on AMI where Water and other City staff shared details of the project and the proposed contract. Vallejo Water Meter Upgrade Project

The City of Vallejo is looking to expand broadband infrastructure and access in the community. Broadband is a type of high-speed internet connection and is the currency for the modern age. The City hopes to build out its broadband infrastructure to benefit the community.Municipal broadband helps generate competition within the market and benefit a range of individuals, businesses, and organizations. The City&#39;s goal is to extend fiber to the schools, anchor businesses, lateral buildouts for businesses, and bring fiber to new developments coming to the City. Additionally, we are looking at ways to provide WIFI access in public gathering places like the waterfront, city parks, and the downtown. Building our broadband infrastructure will also allow the City to provide free WIFI access to our underserved communities.<hr>Inyo Networks has served as the City&#39;s Internet Service Provider (ISP) and Fiber Infrastructure contractor for the past five years. Through this public-private partnership, the City has expanded the fiber network to Mare Island, municipal buildings, built a Point of Presence (POP), and brought carrier-level internet service to the City of Vallejo.On October 26, 2021, the City Council approved a contract with CTC Technology and Energy, an engineering and broadband consulting firm, to assist with updating the fiber-optic master plan and put out a request for proposals (RFP) seeking additional public-private partnership(s) since the City&#39;s current contract with Inyo Networks expires in March 2022.Subscribe to this project page to stay informed regarding the City&#39;s Broadband project!
