City of Vallejo Announces New Date for Groundbreaking for the Vallejo Navigation Center

April 29, 2024

Vallejo, CA - The City of Vallejo is delighted to announce the start of construction for the Vallejo Navigation Center (Nav Center), a crucial step forward in tackling homelessness within our community. Join us and our healthcare partners for the groundbreaking ceremony, set to take place at the future site of the Navigation Center on Monday, April 29, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM, located at 1937 Broadway Street.

Serving as a central hub for the unhoused community, the Nav Center represents a holistic approach, providing vital services and shelter to combat homelessness in Vallejo and Solano County. With a capacity of 125 shelter beds, the center will deliver thorough case management services and access to social and medical resources. Additionally, individuals will be able to engage in job training programs, empowering them with the necessary skills to obtain and sustain permanent housing.

Construction of the Nav Center is expected to be complete in December 2024, weather permitting, with occupancy shortly thereafter. The City extends its gratitude to all funding partners whose contributions have been instrumental in realizing the vision of the Vallejo Navigation Center.

“We are excited to see this much-needed project begin construction. The Navigation Center will bring many needed sheltering opportunities and wrap-around services to the unhoused in our Community,” said Natalie Peterson, Assistant to the City Manager. “This is truly the definition of a community project, and we appreciate the support from all of our funding partners and the Vallejo community.”

“At Sutter Health, we know investing in housing and improving access to health services and resources beyond the walls of our hospitals and care centers can have a positive, powerful effect on people’s lives,” said Sutter Solano Medical Center CEO Kelley Jaeger-Jackson. “Sutter is proud to invest $3 million in this collaborative effort with like-minded organizations to help tackle homelessness in the Vallejo community through the Vallejo Navigation Center.”

“Kaiser Permanente’s $3 million contribution to the Vallejo Navigation Center emphasizes our commitment to helping the most vulnerable members of our community secure stable and affordable housing,” said Darryl Curry, Senior Vice President and Area Manager for Kaiser Permanente Napa Solano. “Thank you to the City of Vallejo for its perseverance in opening the Navigation Center at such a critical time for our community.”

“This is what it means to be part of a community,” said Paul McGinty, Chief Experience Officer for NorthBay Health. “We do what we can to lift each other up and invest in organizations that aid our most vulnerable communities. NorthBay Health is proud to participate in the mission of addressing the most basic human needs, and we’re grateful for the commitment from the City of Vallejo, Solano County, the state, and our healthcare colleagues.”

Please note: The ceremony will be held on a dirt site; please wear appropriate attire. Street parking is very limited at the site. Please plan to carpool if possible and walk a short distance to the site.

The Vallejo Navigation Center is made possible by funding from the City of Vallejo, County of Solano, CAP Solano JPA, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, California Department of Housing and Community Development, Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health, and NorthBay Health.
