Join us to learn about what it takes to run for City Council & what life looks like as a Vallejo City Council Member. Learn what it takes to become a candidate and serve effectively.

Open seats in the 2026 election: Districts 2, 4, and 5.

To support potential City Council candidates, the City Clerk’s Office is offering a unique opportunity for you to attend a pre-nomination informational City Council Candidate session.

You will also gain valuable insight into what life is like for a City Council member outside of regular meetings.

Topics Include:

  • Steps to becoming a candidate
  • Key California election laws
  • FPPC requirements, including Form 700
  • Filing processes and critical deadlines
  • Nomination process and associated fees
  • Campaign sign rules
  • Election Day legal requirements

Inside the Role:

  • Closed sessions, workshops, and special meetings
  • Regional boards and committees
  • Training opportunities (e.g., League of California Cities)

Lastly, we will cover the nomination process and fees associated with becoming a qualified candidate, as well as additional topics ranging from campaign signs to legal requirements as a candidate on election day.
