Mare Island Causeway Bridge Update

Repair work on the Mare Island Causeway Bridge is once again moving at full speed after a temporary slowdown prompted by nearby nesting activity of the California Black Rail, a threatened native species. With the birds’ nesting season now concluded, crews have resumed full operations on the long‑running restoration effort.

The project continues to make steady progress, with several key milestones recently completed:

• Sidewalk installation is now completed.
• Work has shifted to the north side of the bridge for Stage 3, where crews have begun guardrail post repairs and installations.
• Broken bearing plate anchor bolts beneath the bridge deck have been removed and replaced.
• A new curb ramp has been installed at the west end of the bridge.
• Installation of the bridge logo is planned for late November or early December.
• Polyester concrete work is tentatively scheduled for October 1–16, 2026. During this period, pedestrian and bicycle access across the bridge will be restricted. The City will announce firm dates once confirmed.

At this stage, the project is approximately 68 percent complete. The anticipated completion date remains March 2027.
