Vallejo Firefighters Support Regional Wildfire Response

As wildfires continue to impact communities across California and the West, the Vallejo Fire Department is contributing personnel and resources beyond the City of Vallejo to support regional wildfire response efforts.

Vallejo Fire Department Captain Kevin Brown recently returned from a 23-day assignment supporting the Timber and Plaskett Fires in Monterey County. Brown served as a Public Information Officer with the incident management teams supporting both fires.

Brown began his assignment on the Timber Fire on August 14, after the fire started on August 8. While working in the Monterey and Big Sur areas, Brown met with residents, businesses and tourists to provide timely information about evacuation orders and warnings, road closures, changing fire conditions and other important information. On August 27, he transitioned to the Plaskett Fire, continuing to provide public information services as the new fire developed.

Brown's assignments did not involve active fire suppression. Instead, they demonstrate the wide range of roles Vallejo Fire Department personnel are trained to perform during emergencies, including public information, incident management, logistics, medical support, and planning.

The Timber and Plaskett Fires are just two examples of Vallejo personnel assisting with wildfires outside the city this season. Earlier in the year, a four-person Vallejo engine company was assigned to the Little Fire, which burned approximately 1,007 acres southeast of Pleasanton.

Vallejo also provided a Battalion Chief to assist with safety and supervision on the Big Grass Fire in southern Oregon, while another Battalion Chief was assigned to the Timber Fire to provide medical support.

In total, seven Vallejo Fire Department personnel have been deployed to different wildfire incidents throughout the 2026 fire season. These assignments have allowed Vallejo personnel to provide resources and expertise to communities facing significant wildfire threats while gaining valuable experience working alongside firefighters and emergency personnel from agencies throughout the region.

For Captain Brown, the assignment highlights the important role public information plays during a wildfire. Providing accurate and timely information helps residents and visitors understand evacuation orders and warnings, road closures, and changing conditions.

The Vallejo Fire Department is proud to support communities throughout California and the West while continuing to serve the residents of Vallejo.
