We are looking for citizens of Vallejo who are genuinely interested in learning more about how city government works and, specifically, how the city operates. The City's hope is that graduates of this course will take their new knowledge and become active participants in their local government, whether it be as employees of the City, commission or board members, council members, volunteers, or partners in the education of city government operations for others in the community. We are also looking for a diverse student body that can represent all corners of the City of Vallejo.

Yes. You will be required to attend this course in person and must be present for at least 90% of the course in order to obtain your certificate of completion.

All classes will be held in the Vallejo Room, located below the JFK Library. (505 Santa Clara Street)

No. You will not pay your materials and dinner fee of $25 until your application has been accepted.

If you are selected and cannot afford the one-time fee of $25, please email natalie.peterson@cityofvalejo.net to inquire about the possibility of scholarship funds.

The one-time $25 dollar fee will cover all materials (printouts, binders, swag) as well as light dinners, which will be served every evening of class. (Those with dietary restrictions should consult with the City of Vallejo Staff member who reaches out to them regarding the successful acceptance of their application)

This is our first Citizen's Academy with a curriculum developed for those in the age range of 18 - 99+.

As we refine and develop the curriculum, we intend on offering the academy to youth, ages 12 - 17 in the future.
