The Vallejo Citizens Academy is designed to give residents an inside look at how their city operates. Through this program, you’ll explore City departments, learn how decisions are made, and discover ways to make a meaningful impact in your community.
What is the Vallejo Citizens Academy?
The Citizens Academy is an 11-week interactive educational program that helps Vallejo residents understand the inner workings of local government. Participants gain valuable insights into City operations and services, fostering a deeper connection to the community.
Our goal is to empower residents with knowledge—so you can:
Engage more effectively in civic life
Share accurate information with neighbors
Contribute to shaping Vallejo’s future
Throughout the program, you’ll take a behind-the-scenes look at every City department, uncovering details you may not have realized were part of the City’s responsibilities.

Economic Development
Finance
Fire
Housing & Community Development
Human Resources
Information Technology
Planning & Development Services
Police
Public Works
Risk Management

The Vallejo Citizens Academy is an 11-week* interactive educational course beginning on March 18, 2026. Classes will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Vallejo Room, located below the JFK Library. Class size will be limited to 24 participants, on a first come first serve basis. All participants will be contacted by the City to confirm their acceptance. A small fee of $25 to offset the program's costs.
