The City of Vallejo is looking to expand broadband infrastructure and access in the community. Broadband is a type of high-speed internet connection and is the currency for the modern age. The City hopes to build out its broadband infrastructure to benefit the community.

Municipal broadband helps generate competition within the market and benefit a range of individuals, businesses, and organizations. The City's goal is to extend fiber to the schools, anchor businesses, lateral buildouts for businesses, and bring fiber to new developments coming to the City. Additionally, we are looking at ways to provide WIFI access in public gathering places like the waterfront, city parks, and the downtown. Building our broadband infrastructure will also allow the City to provide free WIFI access to our underserved communities.

    The City of Vallejo is proud to announce the adoption of the 2022 Broadband Master Plan & Digital Equity Strategy by City Council in May of this year.

    Today the City released its RFP seeking additional partner providers for future public-private partnerships to expand and enhance its network. Some of the criteria specified in the RFP include:

    • the construction of fiber to complete a ring topology for the City's existing fiber network;
    • the construction of last-mile fiber connections from the fiber ring to City-owned facilities;
    • and to operate and maintain the City's fiber as an open-access network, including the deployment of public Wi-Fi in specified locations.

    All assets will be owned by the City and operated by the awardee.

    In March of this year, the City of Vallejo's 5-year contract with Inyo Network expired. In the interim, the City has selected a local ISP, Cyber Fiber (Smart Fiber Network), to operate Vallejo-Net, which currently services retail customers. Smart Fiber Network will also manage the City's fiber infrastructure.
